The Explore tab follows visits step by step, so you can see how people move through your site: where they land, what they do next, and where they leave.

On Tidemark Cloud, journeys come with the Pro plan. Self-hosted installs have them without limits.

Open it

On the dashboard, open Behaviors → Explore. The first column, Starting point, lists the pages and events that visits begin with, most common first.

Follow a route

  1. Click an item in the first column. The next column, 1 step after, shows what those visitors did next, with how many visitors took each route. No further action counts the ones who left.
  2. Click an item there to continue to 2 steps after, and so on. Clicking a different item in an earlier column starts the route again from there.
  3. Use the search box above a column to find a page or event, and Reset to start over.

Click Starting point in the first column to switch to Ending point. The columns then read backwards, showing what visitors did before they ended their visit on a page or event.

What counts as a step

  • Every pageview and every custom event of a visit is a step, in the order it happened. Reloading the same page doesn't add a step.
  • A folder, shown with a folder icon and a trailing /*, groups every page under that path, so /docs/* covers /docs and everything beneath it.
  • Visitors are counted once per item, even if they took the route in several visits.

Filters and periods

Journeys follow the period you picked. Filters that describe the visit, such as country, source or device, narrow which visits are included. Filters on pages, goals and properties don't apply to journeys, and data imported from Plausible isn't included because it has no step-by-step detail.
