What’s new in Tidemark 0.38

An official WordPress plugin, plus an Install on menu in the dashboard with ready-to-paste code for WordPress, Shopify, Next.js, Nuxt, Astro, SvelteKit and Laravel.

We make Tidemark, so we are not a neutral party. We have tried to be fair, to say where other tools are the better choice, and to keep claims about other products to things you can check yourself.

Tidemark 0.38 is out, together with an official WordPress plugin. Both are about getting Tidemark onto a site, whatever the site runs on.

An official WordPress plugin

Tidemark Analytics is now in the WordPress.org plugin directory. Install it, activate it, open Settings → Tidemark Analytics, enter the address of your Tidemark and save.

  • No cookies, and nothing stored in WordPress. The plugin keeps its settings and nothing else. Your statistics stay in Tidemark.
  • It leaves you out. Signed-in administrators are not counted by default, you can choose other roles, and page previews are never counted.
  • A separate script file. The script is a deferred file of its own, and the tag asks the common caching and speed plugins not to combine or delay it.
  • The extras are one tick away. Outbound link clicks, file downloads, form submissions, and scroll depth and time on page.
  • Custom events from your theme. Call plausible('Signup') from your theme or another plugin to record your own events.

The address can be Tidemark Cloud or your own install. The plugin is free and open source. The code is on GitHub.

An Install on menu

The snippet you copy from the dashboard, on the install page and in a site’s Settings → Tracking, now starts with an Install on menu: HTML, WordPress, Shopify, Next.js, Nuxt, Astro, SvelteKit and Laravel. Pick yours and it shows the file to open and the code to paste, already filled in with your site’s domain and script file. For WordPress it shows the address to enter in the plugin, with a link to the plugin page.

Tidemark remembers your choice, so the next site you add opens on the same one.

Smaller changes

  • A site whose visits are all from today no longer looks empty in “Last 7/28/30/91 days”. Those periods end yesterday, so the overview now says so and offers a button to show today.
  • The word “Tidemark” no longer shows up above the top bar now and then after signing in.

Upgrading

Self-hosted installs update from the dashboard as usual. There are no database changes in this release.
